釋意翻譯是意義對(duì)等翻譯，語(yǔ)言翻譯是字詞對(duì)應(yīng)翻譯。下面的例子選自斯坦貝克的《沙丁街》由瑪?shù)绿m?帕茲（Magdeleine Paz)譯成法文。但為了文章種類(lèi)和語(yǔ)言的平衡，我們還選用了一篇德語(yǔ)科技文章和其譯文說(shuō)明這一觀點(diǎn)。
1. 什么是意義對(duì)等
我們來(lái)看看《沙丁街》第十四章的第一話：
(英文）
Early morning is a time of magic in Cannery Row. In the gray time after the light has come and before the sun has risen, the Row seems to hang suspended out of time in a silvery light.
(法文）
Le lever du jour est un moment magique, dans la Rue de la Sardine. Qand le soleil n'a pas encore percé l'horizon gris, la Rue parait suspendue hors du temps, enveloppée d'une lueur d'argent.
(參考譯文：黎明在沙丁街是極富魅力的時(shí)光。太陽(yáng)還未穿透灰色東方的時(shí)候，街道似乎披裹著銀裝，停滯于時(shí)間之外。）
法文的意義同英文等同，但是我們會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)使用的詞匯卻很少—致。英文的語(yǔ)言涵義使篇章意義出現(xiàn)，但并非所有詞匯都被照搬迸法文；根據(jù)法文的特點(diǎn)和譯者喜歡的文筆，意義得到再現(xiàn)。 可以說(shuō)，原文和法語(yǔ)譯文是對(duì)等的。
2. 什么是詞語(yǔ)對(duì)應(yīng)
在相同的段落中，可以找出兩種語(yǔ)言的對(duì)應(yīng)詞。我用黑體字劃出來(lái)：
（英文）
Early morning is a time of magic in Cannery Row. In the gray time after the light has come and before the sun has risen T the Row seems to hang suspended out of time in a silvery light.
（法文）
Le lever du jour est un moment magique, dans la Rue de la Sardine. Qand le soleil n'a pas encore percé l'horizon gris，la Rue parait suspendue hors du temps, enveloppée d'une lueur d'argent.
