(4)增譯動詞 

在原文的名詞或動詞前后添加漢語動詞。

例九：Diseases associated with atherosclerosis are an increasing problem in most part of the world.

【說明】problem前增譯“成為”

【譯文】與動脈粥樣硬化相關(guān)的疾病，在世界上大部分地區(qū)正越來越成為問題。

例十：Obviously, cool temperature slows down the action of bacteria.

【說明】slow down增譯為“使…減慢”。

【譯文】顯然，低溫可使細(xì)菌的活動減慢。

3. 為表達(dá)原文語法概念而增譯

主要有下列幾種情況： 

(1)增譯表示復(fù)數(shù)概念的同

例十一；The first electronic computers went into operation in 1946.

【說明】the first增譯為“第一批”

【譯文】第一批電子計算機(jī)于1946年開始使用。

例十二： When the muscles contract, the bones acting as lever produce movement.

【說明】the bones增譯為“各個骨頭”。

【譯文】肌肉收縮時，起杠桿作用的各個骨頭就產(chǎn)生了運(yùn)動。 

(2) 增譯連詞

翻譯時要注意上下文的連貫性，有時有必要依據(jù)原文的邏輯關(guān)系添加連詞。 

例十三：In connection with the use of disinfectants it should be stated that their potency is a greatly increased by raising the temperature.

【說明】增譯“如果…就…”

【譯文】使用消毒劑時，如果增加其溫度，就會極大地提高其效能。

例十四： Although the importance of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and minerals has been widely recognized, man cannot live upon a mixture of these alone.

【說明】增譯“…，但是…”

【譯文】雖然蛋白質(zhì)、碳水化合物，脂肪以及礦物質(zhì)的重要性已為人們所公認(rèn)，但是人卻不能僅僅以此為生。

4. 為符合漢語語法修辭要求而增譯

英、漢兩種語在語法和修辭方面存在差異，通過增譯某些部分，可使譯文更通順。
